Focus timer

The timer sits below the clock. Turn it on in Settings → Home → Focus timer, then open Durations, signal and automation.

Setting Range Default
Focus 5 to 90 min 25 min
Break 1 to 30 min 5 min
Long break 5 to 60 min 15 min
Long break after Never, or 1 to 8 sessions 4 sessions

The 25 / 5 min, 50 / 10 min and 90 / 20 min buttons set the session and the break in one go.

▶ starts the current step; the same button pauses and resumes. The other buttons only appear once the timer has started:

Button Effect
+5 Adds 5 minutes to the current step
⏭︎ Skips to the next step
↺ Resets the timer

The field below the timer holds the goal of the session (“Proofread chapter 3”). Choose a task opens the tasks from your note: Focus on this copies the start of the task into that field. It does not start the timer, and the task is not ticked when the session ends.

  • Start the break automatically (on by default): the break begins as soon as the session ends.
  • Start the next session automatically (off by default): the session restarts as soon as the break ends.
  • Focus mode: while a session is running, the weather, quotes and links fade.

End signal: beep, chime or no sound, with an adjustable volume. Play the signal lets you try it. Browsers only play sound after a first interaction with the page.

System notification asks for permission to show notifications: the site permission on the website, the optional notifications permission in the extension. If you refuse, the timer works without notifications.

A background tab may be slowed down or suspended by the browser. The display catches up when you come back, but the sound and the notification may arrive late. Nothing rings once the browser is closed.

“Today: 3 sessions · 75 min” counts sessions that ended, or that were skipped after at least a minute. It starts again from zero each day.

The running timer, its goal and today’s total belong to the space and the device: neither export nor sync carries them. Durations and the signal are ordinary space settings.
