Web search and quick access
The home page search field does two things: it sends your text to the chosen search engine, and while you type it suggests links from the space whose name or address matches. It does not search your notes.
The search engine
Section titled “The search engine”Choose it in Settings → Home → Search → Search engine: DuckDuckGo, Google, Bing, Qwant, Ecosia, Startpage, Brave Search, Mojeek, Kagi, Wikipedia or a custom engine. The choice belongs to the space.
Your text goes to the engine only when you press Enter. Nothing is sent while you type: link suggestions are worked out in the page.
Open a saved link
Section titled “Open a saved link”Type part of a link’s name (“docu” for “Documentation”) or the start of its address, without https:// or www.. Up to five links are suggested.
- Click a suggestion, or pick it with the up and down arrows, then press Enter.
- With no link picked, Enter searches the web. Escape closes the suggestions.
Custom search engine
Section titled “Custom search engine”The address must use HTTPS and contain {query}, which is replaced by your search:
https://duckduckgo.com/?q={query}The easy way: run a search on the engine you want, copy the address of the results page, then replace your search words with {query}. An address without {query}, over plain HTTP or with credentials (user:password@) is refused.
Where the field goes
Section titled “Where the field goes”Search on the home page puts the field below the weather, at the top, at the bottom, or hides it. Hiding it removes no links; search is then still available in the Links and notes window.
