FAQ and troubleshooting

Before resetting a space or clearing the site’s data, export whatever is still there. Most “lost” data comes from a change of context, not from deletion.

My links or my note are gone

Check in this order:

1. The space. The Space button (or Settings → Spaces and backup → Manage spaces) shows which one is open. A new space is empty.
2. Website or extension. They do not share their data.
3. The browser profile, and private browsing, which starts from scratch.
4. Another device. If it still has the right version, export it before any sync.

In the right space, try Previous versions for the note, then the recovery points: Review and restore lets you bring back only the links, without touching the current note.

If the site’s data was cleared, the recovery points went with it: only an export or another device can help.

My changes do not stick

If the note shows “Storage unavailable”, or a message reports full storage, nothing is being saved. Export straight away (or copy the note elsewhere), then check that the browser does not clear data on exit and is not in private browsing.

Sync gives different results on each device

• Do both devices use the same mode? Code sync and browser sync cannot see each other.
• Is the same space open on both sides, with the same code?
• Is a sync conflict or a note conflict waiting for an answer?

“Syncing too often, trying again shortly” only means waiting a few seconds. See Sync.

The weather is missing, or shows the wrong city

Reopen the weather window and check the city’s country. In the Firefox extension, check that Allow the weather was accepted. Offline, the last forecasts stay on screen with their time. A missing air quality line means the data is not available for that place.

The wallpaper does not change, or a photo is missing

• Automatic change may be set to Never, or to a long interval.
• With Bing or NASA on Every day, the image changes only once a day.
• A colour filter narrows the choice; a hidden wallpaper never comes back.
• To rule out a provider problem, try Hostux wallpapers, adapted to the time of day.

For a personal photo: are you in the same space and browser as when you added it? Is the file a JPEG, PNG or WebP of 8 MiB at most? For a linked folder, is the browser waiting for permission again? See Your images.

A link is missing from the bar

At the top or bottom, the bar only shows the first twelve links. Move the missing one up (see Links).

The page’s buttons have gone

The action bar is folded: click the four squares at the bottom right.

An import is refused or does something unexpected

A space holds a hundred links at most, and addresses already present are skipped. If an import replaced too much, the “Before import” recovery point takes you back.

The new tab does not show Hostux.page

Check that the extension is installed and enabled in this profile, and that no other extension controls the new tab. On a phone, the extension cannot replace the new tab: see Installation.

Reporting a problem

Write to help@hostux.net with the browser and its version, the system, website or extension, the steps to reproduce, what you expected and what happened, and the exact text of any error message. Hide your notes and private links on a screenshot; never send a sync code or a full export.
