Offline use and storage

On the website, a service worker keeps the page and its files after a first visit online: it then opens offline. Secondary tools (tasks, link manager, backup) only load the first time you open them; open them once while online if you plan to use them offline. The extension already contains its page.

Offline Result
Links, note, tasks, settings Usable; sync resumes when the connection is back
Timer Usable
Weather Last forecasts kept, marked as old
Wallpapers Images already seen stay available for a while; your personal images, always
Server quotes Today’s if it was already shown, otherwise a quote built into the page
Opening a link Depends on the site

The notice “Offline · the data shown may be out of date.” then appears at the top of the home page.

This documentation does not work offline.

Settings → Privacy and help → Storage on this device shows the browser’s estimate for the whole site and lists what can be cleared without touching your settings or images:

  • Wallpaper and icon cache;
  • Offline public data (weather, quotes, wallpaper lists);
  • Page available offline: once cleared, the page no longer opens offline until your next visit online;
  • Weather saved on this device;
  • Previous note versions (the current note stays);
  • Saved image positions.

My images is listed for reference; your images are deleted from the My images library.

Backup and recovery also offers Clear image and data caches for all spaces, which touches neither settings, notes nor personal images.

A browser may clear a site’s data on its own when the disk fills up. Request persistent local storage, in Backup and recovery, asks it not to; it accepts or refuses under its own rules. Even when granted, this does not protect against manual clearing, private browsing or losing the device: keep an export and your original photos.

Clearing the site’s data in the browser settings deletes everything: spaces, settings, notes, personal images and recovery points.
