Your images and personal folders

Your photos stay in the browser of the device where you add them, in the space open at the time: each space has its own library. They are never sent to the server, and neither the JSON export nor sync carries them.

Wallpapers → Manage my images (with the My images or My images and online wallpapers source) opens the My images library. Three ways to add photos:

  • Add images: files picked one by one or together;
  • Import a folder: every image in a folder, copied into the browser. Later changes to the folder do not affect the copy;
  • Link a folder on disk: the images stay in the folder and Hostux.page keeps only thumbnails. This command only exists in Chromium browsers (Chrome, Edge, Brave…); Firefox and Safari do not offer this access.

Only JPEG, PNG and WebP files of up to 8 MiB are accepted, whatever the method. Copied images are stored in IndexedDB, the browser’s storage: keep your originals elsewhere.

After changes in the folder, select it, then Refresh the folder. The browser may ask for read permission again after a restart; until you grant it, those images are not shown.

Deleting an image or a folder in Hostux.page never touches the files on disk.

The library’s folders are for sorting your images: Create, Rename, Delete the folder (its images move to Imported images), and Move for the selection. If other Hostux.page tabs are open, the page may ask you to close them before changing the library.

A photo whose proportions differ from the screen’s is cropped. When one of your images is shown, Current image position sets its Horizontal position and Vertical position; Recentre goes back to the middle. The file is not changed, and the position stays on this device.

With the My images and online wallpapers source, Share of my images (10 to 90 %) sets how often your photos come up against Wallhaven images. The draw is random: at 50 %, they do not strictly alternate.

On the other device, add the files again or link the folder again. The export and sync carry the choice of source and mix, not the images.

Clear image and data caches for all spaces (in Backup and recovery) does not delete your images. Clearing the site’s data in the browser does.
