Weather, cities and air quality

The weather is shown for a city you pick by name. The page never asks for your location. Data comes from Open-Meteo (CC BY 4.0 licence) through the Hostux server: Open-Meteo receives the name you search for, then the rounded coordinates of the chosen city, but not your IP address.

Click the weather on the home page (or Choose a city the first time), type the name, then pick a result: the country shown tells namesakes apart. Add a city follows two more, three in total; Change this city and Remove this city act on the city on screen.

The first city is the main one. It is the city that the At sunset wallpaper rule follows (see Wallpapers).

The unit is set in Settings → Home → Weather: Celsius, Fahrenheit or both. Wind is always given in km/h.

In the Firefox extension, the weather waits for your consent to the optional locationInfo data; the Allow the weather button asks for it.

  • temperature, sky, feels-like temperature, wind and the day’s maximum UV index;
  • rain over the next two hours, when it changes something (“Rain expected around 14:30”, “Rain ending around…”);
  • a chart of the next 24 hours, temperature and chance of rain;
  • sunrise and sunset times;
  • a three-day forecast;
  • air quality (European index) and birch, alder, grass and ragweed pollen when they reach a moderate or high level.

Air quality is only requested when you open the window. This index and the pollen data come from a European model: elsewhere, the line may be missing. A missing line does not mean clean air.

On the website, the last answer stays available for up to a day without a connection. The window then says so (“Last known data”, “Offline”) and shows when it was updated. Refresh asks again.

Untick Show the weather: your cities stay saved for later.
